Since we heard he was entering the campaign for president, we’ve experienced many, many “firsts” since Donald Trump was elected president. One of the firsts has been the first time we elected a president with absolutely zero experience in politics. Given what we learned in the chapter about the powers the president has according to the constitution, as well as, the requirements to become president, do you feel these are adequate. Should additional requirements be amended to the constitution? If so, what are they? If these requirements are not effective, what requirements would be?

Student#1: I believe the requirements to be a presidential candidate are enough. I, myself, am a supporter of Donald Trump. I believe he’s done a great job in office and has accomplished so many great things in his first 3 years in office. Before this Covid-19 pandemic blindsided the world Donald Trump had created over 4 million employment opportunities for Americans. Economic growth hit 4.2 percent. Unemployment was at a 49 year low. Women’s unemployment reached the lowest rate in 69 years. He signed the biggest package of tax cuts and reforms in history, and on and on. I believe his success with our economy came because he comes from a history of business as opposed to a career politician. I believe part of the problem with career politicians is their lack of experience in the job market, running a business, they become out of touch with reality. Almost all career politicians come from a background of money. They get so caught up in the political tornado that they forget what real people living every day life really need and get so caught it in trying to find an edge to make themselves stand out. Look at some of the bills the democratic party have come forward with. They make absolutely no sense. Where is the money for their reforms supposed to come? They can’t even begin to explain how they’re actually going to fund all these huge ideas they have. Just taxes and more taxes and more taxes. It makes no sense when you actually try to explain how it’s supposed to work. I don’t think we need government creating a detailed guideline of who qualifies. That is and should remain left up to American citizens to decide who we want to lead us. Who we choose to trust. And when I say citizens, I mean ONLY US citizens. I don’t believe anyone that is not a citizen of the United States should have a say in who is elected to govern our country. No other country in the world would even consider something as idiotic as leaving an election up to people that are not citizens of that country. That aren’t financially invested in their country. Just passerby. That would be crazy.
