I’m working on a writing presentation and need support to help me understand better.
As you are preparing your notecards to aid in the delivery of this speech, consider your style as a presenter–are you more planned or more impromptu? Even if you are more impromptu, you still want to provide yourself with some notes as a guide. Typically, a presenter will prepare anywhere from about 1-6 notecards for a five minute presentation. Resist the temptation to take elements “word for word” from your outline. However, make sure you know 1) How you will get audience attention 2) Express your own credibility/passion for the topic 3) Indicate why it is relevant to your audience 4) State your claim 5) Preview the points of your speech 6) Include a card with applicable research 7) Make sure you are comfortable with transitioning from each main point 8) Summarize your speech 9) Include a Statement of Personal Interest 10) End with something strong and memorable!!
Those are the most important elements of a persuasive speech…how you prepare your notes is entirely up to you. (You can even give yourself delivery notes, such as to smile, make eye contact, gesture, etc.). And remember, each time you prepare and present a speech you will learn more about who you are as a presenter. Attention Getter you incorporated, not Hi my name is or Today I will talk about and dont forget to close with thank you so your audience knows the speech has concluded.)
