Essay Questions # 3 – 50% of the Final Examination Grade
Now that you have studied a number of the major religions of the world you will know more about Religion than you did at the beginning of the semester. Go back and revisit the original definition of religion that you wrote during the first week of the semester.
In your essay discuss how you defined Religion at the start of the semester, and how or whether your definition of Religion has changed after studying the different religious traditions. Make sure you state what was your original definition of religion. Explain why your definition has either changed or not changed, and if it has changed how studying various traditions has changed it, and what is your new definition.
In your essay you must use three of the different religious traditions we have studied this semester. One of these must be one of the Indian traditions (either Hinduism or Buddhism), one must be one of the Chinese traditions (Confucianism or Daoism), and one from the Middle East traditions(Judaism or Christianity). Use these three traditions to illustrate why your original tradition changed (or why not0 and how, if you did tweak your defintion, your revised definition is a useful definition for scholars studying religion.
my old definition of religion: in my eyes, religion is something someone follows due to family reasons, personal reasons, or just trying to fit in. It also could be something someone practices so when things are unexplained and dont make sense they can look to their faith
