Keep in mind that you need to identify a controversial issue within the field—not merely report on the career. Since each of you will be exploring different careers, the following list of parts will vary in importance from student to student; use these points as a guideline of material you may include if they are important to your argument.i.
Your opening paragraph, which contains your thesis; try for an intersting, attention-getting opener. OK to use “I” and personal anecdote.ii.
BACKGROUND: Brief Timeline if it’s important to your issue, as well as Major Players: what individuals, organizations, government agencies, etc. are involved? What are their viewpoints? Why do they have these beliefs?iii.
ARGUMENT: Description of relevant case studies/current events, legal rulings, charts, etc. Be sure to include paraphrases and quotations, cited correctly.
Reflections (1-2 pp.) on the issue: What key points have you learned? Were you surprised by anything you discovered? What do you hope and/or predict the future will show regarding this issue? as well ason the research process: How challenging was this assignment? What would you have done differently? What do you wish you had known more about? Describe a source that you rejected: why was it inappropriate to your needs?III.Annotated Bibliography, following MLA format for the Works Cited page, and including several sentences describing what is contained in the article, website, etc. (the annotation) for each source. 5 sources are required.
