Paper cannot be on MLK, Malcom X, or the Black civil rights movement. Thank you so much!
This paper should be 8-11 pages long.
Final paper prompt:
Choose a speech from a leader from a social movement. This must be a speech not assigned in class. You will analyze this speech and describe how it illustrates which rhetorical phase or strategy of agitation of a social movement (See ch 2 of your book).
Your paper should consist of an introduction in which you introduce your topic, provide a thesis statement (not a topic sentence), and a preview.
Your paper should have a background section of the speech in which you contextualize it. Describe the speaker who gave it and the movement it was a part of. This section should help me understand the importance of the speech and the setting it was given in.
Your paper should have an analysis in which you explain what rhetorical stage, or strategy of agitation, it represents. This should include plenty of textual support.
Your paper should have a conclusion in which you wrap up your ideas and state the implications of your analysis (indicate what is important about what you have argued).
Speech can be defined loosely as long as you discuss it with me. We are looking for a rhetorical artifact that is a product of a social movement.
If you would rather focus on the establishment, you can choose a speech or rhetorical artifact from the establishment and analyze it in terms of rhetorical reactions/strategies from the establishment. (See ch 3 of your textbook).
The requirements for the paper remain the same
