Write 1750 words
As a focal example for this module, we will consider the case of adisruptive innovation that is roaring down on society at nearly thespeed of light, despite common acknowledgment that we really do not knowwhat its effects will be. This is so-called automated driving ordriverless vehicles. There is no question that within the next 5 to 10years, the bulk of vehicles on the roads will switch from beingdirectly human controlled to being largely robotically controlled, withonly sporadic if any human intervention. For all of human history, transportation has required the direct involvement of a human being, whether that be the driver of an oxcart or the driver of a Mercedes18-wheeler. Management of vehicles has been one of the centralpreoccupations of humans for at least the last 100 years. Giantindustries are based on this technological framework. The introductionof robotically controlled vehicles promises to disrupt these giantindustries in critical ways, even eliminating some of them entirely andreshaping others to be almost unrecognizable.
How will society deal with these issues? What will survive thisdisruptive transition, and what will not? What will our society looklike when it is completely transformed by this virtually inevitabletechnology? Who will the winners and losers be? Any look at disruptiveinnovation always generates more questions than answers, but byexamining those questions we may begin to formulate better ones andeventually arrive at a more complete understanding. If we do not, thenwe will be simply whipsawed by our own technologies whose underlyingvalues may be significantly different from those we would like to seeour society enact.
After reading the required background material and finding at leasttwo other resources on your own, write a 5- to 7-page paper discussingthe topic:
Self-driving vehicles as a disruptive technology

Then provide a briefdescription of the self-driving vehicle technology and where itcurrently stands today. You should then proceed to address the questionsposed in the case discussion above: namely, how will society deal withthese issues? What will survive this disruptive transition, and whatwill not? What will our society look like when it is completelytransformed by this virtually inevitable technology? Who will thewinners and losers be? Conclude your paper with a couple of paragraphssummarizing your views on self-driving vehicles in particular, and howsociety and organizations might to deal more effectively andproductively with disruptive technologies generally.
