Political Science Questions / Bardes & Reflection Question
Drawing from Bardes (Ch. 2), please discuss and explain the Beard thesis. What was it? How does it try to explain whether or not the new constitution had majority support among public opinion?

The link below shows a very rigorous and entertaining debate between two very eloquent and well known current pundit leaders of each the left and the right. This was filmed at the annual Politicon 2017 in Pasadena. Current event-wise, it is a bit dated from four years ago, but my goal is to get you to see the values and logic of the right and left in action by two articulate representatives of the right & left. Cenk Uygur, who is the head of the progressive left leaning and successful ” The Young Turks” news organization, goes up against Ben Shapiro. Shapiro is a UCLA (BA in Political Science) and Harvard (JD) trained lawyer and conservative commentator and writer. He is regarded as one of the brightest and most well respected political pundits among the right – especially among young conservatives.
The assignment is to watch this debate (it is approx. an hour long, so you might want to schedule your time and watch it in installments, or watch it through in one sitting) and then answer the following questions on this forum: (1) How do each debater’s talking points and arguments on health care and taxation policy apply to some of the economic values of the left and right that we have covered in the early part of this semester? Please give some examples. (2) Choose another issue addressed in the debate and, again, apply it to our class lectures and discussions on the values and logic of the left and the right. (3) What struck you as most notable about this debate, and why?
